ROMANIA Romania is situated in the southern-eastern part of Europe , around parallel 45 latitude North, having as neighbors in the northern and eastern part Ukraine , Moldavia and the Black Sea , in the southern part Bulgaria and Serbia and Montenegro Federation, in the western part Hungary .

ARGES COUNTY GENERAL GEOGRAPHICAL AND ECONOMICAL INFORMATION Arges county is situated in the central-southern part of Romania . Parallel 45 latitude North goes through it, while 25º meridian longitude east goes through its eastern part.
The county surface is of 6.286 s. km., representing 2.9% of the total surface of the country. Pitesti municipal town is the county's capital having a population of 173.739 inhabitants.
The county's main localities are: municipal towns: Campulung Muscel (39.111 inhabitants) and Curtea de Arges (33.902 inhabitants); towns: Mioveni (34.114 inhabitants), Costesti (10.933 inhabitants) and Topoloveni (10.547 inhabitants).
The county's relief looks like a gigantic amphitheater which lies from the northern part to the southern part, including all geo-morphological units which can be found in the Carpathian - Danubian area from 2.500 m to 160 m of altitude. Fagarasi Mountains (from the Southern Carpathians ) lie in the northern part, with Moldoveanu Peak (2.543 m), Negoiu Peak (2.535 m) and Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak (2.508 m) dominating the area. Leaota Massif, the hills of Platoul Dacic and a part of the Romanian Plain cross the county eastern border. Gavanu-Burdea Plain lies in the eastern part, while Olt and Arges Valleys stretch towards West. The soil and the subsoil are rich in coal, salt, limestone, oil, clay, forests and hay-fields.
From an economic point of view, Arges county occupies the 4 th pace due to its contribution to the Gross Internal Product.

BRIEF HISTORY
Arges area, inhabited since ancient times, facilitated the development of Geto-Dacian settlements which became, as time passed, powerful economic center in the commercial trades between people from the northern and southern part of the Carpathians, as well as between Dacian and Getic people. These settlements represent the origin of the centralized Feudalism in Wallachia .
The Romanian nobles set up their manors in Curtea de Arges and Campulung Muscel, these localities becoming thus powerful commercial and cultural centers in the area. Romanian and foreign tourists who visit this county should visit Curtea de Arges, one of the most important medieval sites in Romania . Situated in the central part of Romania near the Carphatians, 150 km far from Bucharest , Curtea de Arges was the first capital of the country in 1330 and it holds art monuments of great value, being a real museum of Romanian history. The princely church, built by Basarab family in the 14 th century is a classic Byzantine church, a monument of Romanian medieval art and architecture. We can find here frescos from different periods, but those which come from the reign of Vladislav the 1 st and Radu the 1 st are the most valuable. Curtea de Arges Monastery, made of Albesti stone, whose founder is Neagoe Basarab (1512 – 1521) is one of the most famous historical monuments in Romania . Its fame is connected to the legend of Master Manole and it is known all over the world.
Only a few kilometres away from Curtea de Arges there is Poenari Fortress, which was a Castle of Vlad Tepes in the Middle Age and is nowadays known as Dracula.
